[okfn-help] List moderator requests on mailman

Hi all,

I would appreciate input on the current mailing list moderation system.

At present, the list-admin alias is unmanageable. There are typically 50+
moderation requests per day, and even to follow all the links is a
significant volume of work.

1) One option is to make all the settings more aggressive. Only messages
from members go through, others get a notification that their message has
been rejected (currently they are told that their message is being held for
approval).
I'm +1 on this, but would appreciate some sysadmin help in identifying the
correct settings to apply on mailman.

2) An alternative would be to more rigorously ensure that individuals take
ownership over specific lists, and reduce the number of lists that are
moderated by list-admin. This does rely on individuals keeping on top of
their moderation requests.

The point has been raised that this system was implemented fairly recently.
If this has all been debated before, it would be useful to know why the
current conclusions were reached. Please do let me know of any history I
should bear in mind!

All thoughts gratefully received!

Thanks very much,
Laura
