[Apologies for cross-posting]

Dear all,

I'm Domenico Giusti, a student from the Erasmus Mundus Master in
Quaternary and Prehistory at the University of Ferrara.

Here few words about my background: I graduated in Conservation of
Cultural Heritage at the University of Perugia with a degree in
ethnography and museography. Then I worked some years with local
ethnographic museums, specially dealing with cataloging, databases and
other information technologies applied to cultural heritage, mainly
using Free/Libre and Open Source software.

Since 2010, I'm following courses in Global Positioning System (GPS) and
Geographic Information System (GIS) and I'm also very interested in
themes like Open Knowledge and Science Commons.

In 2010 I decide to apply for the Cultural Fund of the University of
Ferrara, a fund for cultural events and activities promoted by the
student of the University of Ferrara, to have the opportunity to get
some fund to organize a workshop on Free Software, Open Data and Open
Knowledge in Archaeology. Then, I became the project manager of the
GNewArchaeology workshop.

So I am glad to invite you to participate to the first GNewArchaeology
workshop (and I hope it will not be the last one…)

The GNewArchaelogy – Free Software, Open Data and Open Knowledge in
Archaeology workshop is part of a cultural project promoted and
organized by the students from the University of Ferrara and funded by
the Cultural Fund of the University of Ferrara, Italy.

These two days will be an opportunity for meeting and debating about the
use and diffusion of free and open source software aimed at public
institutions, particularly at archaeological research processes, such as
open formats and archaeological data sharing.

Presentations of research projects and case studies, round-table
discussions and tutorials about specific software are scheduled. The
more technical and specific meeting will be preceded by introductive
sessions to the free software addressed to everyone who is interested in
and will include screening of documentaries, distribution of informative
brochures and help for software installation.

The workshop is an occasion to develop links, connections, contacts,
cooperation between students, professionals and working groups.
