Hi All
Open Data Day is on the 21st of February this year at 9am. Following
the hugely successful event last year, Code for South Africa is
hosting a data easter egg hunt competition. It will be at held at the
Codebridge Civic Tech Lab in Cape Town.
We're going to be setting up 20 data exercises ranging from easy to
difficult and asking participants to try to answer them. An example of
an easy question might be, "How many flush toilets are there in
Bela-Bela?".
We'll also have a data visualisation component for those who like graphs.
You don't need to be a programmer to participate. If you've ever seen
a spreadsheet then you're welcome to come. We're looking for
academics, journalists, activists, accountants, lawyers, plumbers,
builders, kite builders and anyone else who has an interest in
learning more about data.
There will be prizes in various categories, more details to follow.
You can find more details here: http://www.code4sa.org. I'll put up
more details soon.
For those who can't make it physically, we'll open the competition up
online as well.
Please RSVP ahead of time at the link below. We have space for around
40 people at Codebridge. If you're going to participate online, please
indicate that when you RSVP.
