Thought you folks may be interested in news from Nigeria's Statistics
Bureau ( http://www.nigerianstat.gov.ng/ ) who've just launched the
"Nigeria Statistical Data Portal"  http://nigeria.prognoz.com/Map.aspx

While this doesn't check all the boxes to be called "open data" it's
encouraging to see a progressive approach to the dissemination of national
data.

We're finding at the World Bank that some national statistics offces are
quite receptive towards supporting notion of national open data initiatives
because they already have experience and mandates for handling official
government data. On the other hand, some are not that keen at all!

As ever, good examples from other countries in the region go a long way
towards building the case for opening up government data.
