[OpenGLAM] Omeka testing - was Re: Restyling the Open Collections area on the GLAM site

Dear All,
A quick update on how things are going with the Open Collections area.
We have set up an Omeka test server at Open Knowledge at:
http://omeka-test.okserver.org/ Omeka is a tool is specifically designed
to showcase collections and items that sit within those collections. It
seems to be pretty extendable and there are quite a few plugins that
maybe of interest. There is also good documentation and active forums.
So far my main observations are:
* You can add collections and items. Although we officially want to
showcase collections, items are much more appropriate for what we
are after and have a lot more functionality, you can tag them, add
files, add images, put them in to categories etc. One option is to
not add any of our entries as a collection and stick to items.
* There are countless plugins - I've installed quite a few (like the
map view) but there are many more.
* Omeka is too extensive to embed in Wordpress (you can embed
individual items) so the whole thing would really need to stand
alone with CSS styling. We should be able to use the OpenGlam domain
name.
* Batch upload and export are straightforward. It's all based on
Dublin Core.
Anyway if anyone has time to have a look at what we have so far it would
be hugely helpful! Please do have a look around and send over any
comments on what works, what doesn't work, things you'd like to see etc.
