[openspending-dev] Widgets - tickets and planning

Hi all,

so the key feature for this month is to have an easy story for generating embedded visualizations. We can assume that a user has loaded a dataset (or is using a public dataset) and wants to generate some specific visualization based on the widgets we can provide (BubbleTree, TreeMap, DataTable, SpendBrowser, OverUnder - there is a potential story here about how we can assist them in choosing the right type).

I've created two tickets, https://github.com/okfn/openspending/issues/444 (for a query builder) and https://github.com/okfn/openspending/issues/445 (embed function - the preference for iframe is actually based on a statement from the Guardian, I'd have a preference for doing JS/CSS at this stage). Any comments on this would be much appreciated.

There are two optional parts to this:

* Stored configs with names (i.e. research state) - essentially this is views, except that any user could create them and would see them on a personal dashboard.

* Embed the embedder (i.e. wordpress integration) - so people can make this in their wordpress instance. This comes from the KNC docs but I'm really not sure its important or even a good idea.

We'll also need to think about how we contextualize this so it actually gets used by non-spendingstories journos as well. This may include a demo video and some static content pages explaining it and linking to showcases.

Cheers,

 - Friedrich
