Hey, all—I’m doing this in English to make sure everyone’s included,
We had a lot of fun last night working on some patent data; using our
new GitHub
organization <https://github.com/ok-dk>, we dedicated a
repository<https://github.com/ok-dk/patents>to the patent workshop,
which resulted in a swanky map
chart<https://github.com/ok-dk/patents/tree/master/patent-verdenskort/visualization>of
the patents approved worldwide as well as a
wiki <https://github.com/ok-dk/patents/wiki> (in Danish) with all kinds of
juicy information and instruction for retrieving it.
I used d3.js for the linked chart, but there is another tool available that
I couldn’t remember the name of yesterday. Today I remembered that the name
is Magic Maps <http://magicmaps.evanmiller.org/>, which is an awesome tool
by the inimitable statistician extraordinaire Evan Miller. It’s only
available for Mac, but if you have a Mac, I would definitely check it out
to get your feet wet mapping data. Check the
gallery<http://magicmaps.evanmiller.org/gallery.html>for a video
introduction.
Let’s try to get a community going in the GitHub organization,
Niclas
