Cari tutti,

(Primavera è in CC)

Saluti
( e ricordatevi che ci sono le pagine su Open Access e Open Data in
Wikipedia da editare!)

Aubrey

Hi Andrea,
as I was browsing through my mailbox, I stump over an old email of yours
re: collecting metadata of wikimedia works
I figured out you might be interested in helping out with this project we
are having at the Open Knowledge foundation.
Please let me know if that is the case, and if you cannot do it yourself,
don't hesitate to contact me if you have any other person in mind !
Thanks,
Primavera

Hi Mathias,
I was just in the middle of writting you an email, but you have just beaten
me to it :)
As you might already know, at the Open Knowledge Foundation, we are working
on drafting of a Bibliographic Metadata Guide - something that we could
hand in to various GLAM institutions to help them setting up a proper
metadata model for their works.

The idea is to provide each institution with a few simple steps that
illustrates the best practices (or second-best practices) for each category
of works.
You can see the current development of the Bibliographic Metadata Guide at
the following locations:

*** Section I: http://openbiblio.okfnpad.org/metadata-elements
identifies the core metadata elements, for discovery / identification /
description of different types of work

*** Section II: http://openbiblio.okfnpad.org/metadata-art
<http://openbiblio.okfnpad.org/metadata-art>analyzes the state of the art
in terms of currently available standards and their different fields of
application (who uses what)

*** Section III: http://openbiblio.okfnpad.org/metadata-procons
identifies the pros/cons of the most popular standards concerning
bibliographic works (probably should be merged together with Section II)

*** Section IV: http://openbiblio.okfnpad.org/metadata-conclusions
where we present our conclusions / recommendations on what we consider to
be the most appropriate standard(s) for the purpose of open bibliography

After a lot of discussion and debates, we decided that it would be best to
convert this last section into a decision-tree, where different data
providers can answer simple questions in order to find out what are
best-practices for them, in terms of exchange format and metadata format.

I'm not sure what is your area of expertize, but here is the kind of
contribution we need:

Section I:
- review & add to the current minimum/complete list of core metadata
elements for literary works
- provide a similar minimum/complete list of core metadata elements for
other kinds of works
- address the list of open issues listed at the end of the pad

Section II & III:
- mainly a review/editing of what is already there
- maybe provide some additional information concerning the last part (who
uses what)

Section IV is still pretty much to be started ! :)

If you are interested to help with any of this (we would really love your
help) please don't hesitate to contact me for further details :)

Thanks,
 Primavera
