[OpenGLAM] Fwd: Smithsonian data available for National Day of Civic Hacking!

Love the direction of this and the idea of international coordination is key. (some day it will all be LODLAM. :))

Several sources I've seen and really like, but that are not necessarily up to date are:
http://data.culturehack.org.uk
http://datahub.io/group/open-glam

I think we just need to collectively agree on a place and a platform and all commit to it, and bonus points for something that allows us to add updates, variations, mashups, versioning, etc. Have been looking at Github as a potential and creating a group or something, but would also require us promoting culture and tools for people who will use/reuse/improve the data.

OR how about something like http://blend.io for cultural heritage data?!

Some GLAMs already publish their datasets on a national CKAN-instance. – Ideally, the metadata for these datasets would be harvested and not copied-pasted manually. I am also not sure to what extent we are doubling the efforts of Europeana here. I guess we could think of the OpenGLAM directory of open collections as the pipeline for ingestion into Europeana and Wikimedia Commons.
